For the by week I have noticed large holes in the soil of my potted roses. At starting time I thought it may have been caused by rain dripping from the eaves, but and then it dawned on me....we haven't had any rain lately. This morning I went to h2o the roses, and whatsoever was digging in the soil must have had a field 24-hour interval last night. Every pot was dug into. What blazon of animal would exercise this, and why??? |

If it just started happening, squirrels are my gauge. Dig downwardly yourself and encounter whether you come across an acorn or other nut. They're starting to stock up for the winter, and potting soil is like shooting fish in a barrel to dig into. |

Try mixing a tablespoon or 2 of cayenne pepper in the soil at the top of the pot. It seems to encourage my lawn squirrels to discover other places to dig. |

Here it would be squirrels, though in that location are a variety of birds such equally Junkos and nasty Starlings that will do it also. Rabbit wire, the stiff stuff with 1/2" holes is faily cheap, and y'all tin can cut a circumvolve to fit the inside of the pots, then cut a slit from one border to the center with a hole bigger than the trunk, bend and install then flatten. You can also place mothballs on the soil, they dislike the smell. I accept as well heard that cayenne pepper helps but it washes away when y'all water or it rains so y'all take to repeat regularly. |

Raccoons were excavation in my herb pots that are the over the deck railing kind. I saw them on the the deck on night, turned the low-cal on, my cats went crazy and the raccoon only sat there looking at united states. Took forever for it to leave, really large guy too, I didn't want to open the door. They were earthworks out big 5" holes to the bottom of the trays and knocking them off. I moved them from the deck railing to a bench nigh the door and information technology stopped, the herbs really thrived. Don't know why moving them 10 feet deterred the raccoons... |
